“I finally found a home at Mercy,” said business administration, sport management major Marquis Berry ’19.
Berry had studied at two other college’s before transferring in to BԪ, but you’d never know he wasn’t a Maverick from the start if he hadn’t told you.
“When I first came to Mercy and talked to PACT they were so welcoming. I didn’t feel like I’d be a newcomer, I just fit in,” said Berry.
Berry found his place in the sport management major and is working toward becoming a sports agent.
“I’d love to be a sports agent for soccer players — it combines my two passions, soccer and business,” said Berry.
Berry interned at a soccer shop in Westchester and was involved in coaching children’s soccer last summer.
“It was a new perspective to watch a business grow from the ground up. I enjoyed seeing that aspect of the business and also being hands-on with the clients,” said Berry.
To prepare for his internship, Berry met with the Career and Professional Development department and his PACT mentor, which he said greatly helped him.
“They talked me through what I should expect in an interview, how to ask the interviewer questions, how to present myself and then we tailored my résumé to the position,” said Berry.
Berry was also able to begin networking and making industry connections through his PACT Mentor.
“My PACT Mentor, Jackie Freidman, helped me connect with a person who worked at a sports agency. I wasn’t really getting a response on my own, but I was able to meet up with the agent because Jackie reached out and helped set up the meeting,” said Berry.
Right now, Berry is trying to decide whether he’ll take the sports agency licensing exam, or go into the MBA program.
“I’m going to be talking more to my advisers and the staff here, everyone really cares and wants to see you do well,” said Berry.
Berry said he always knew college was a goal, and is looking forward to life after graduation.
