Health Professions

Students in the Health Professions programs graduate with knowledge and skills for careers in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, private practice, and health care organizations. The programs in Communication Disorders, Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy and Veterinary Technology.

Biology program outcomes

Natural Sciences

Our Biology programs prepare students for careers in hospitals, private laboratories, and research facilities.  The Biology B.S. provides students with a comprehensive foundation in the life sciences and is ideal for those interested in careers in biological research, health care or teaching.

Health Sciences

Health Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Science, and Exercise Science programs train students in the application of basic science to health, coupled with the development of the values and  skills required for success in professional practice and graduate study.

The School of Health and Natural Sciences is dedicated to providing premier health and natural science undergraduate and graduate educational programs to equip students with the intellectual, technical and professional competencies they need to excel and advance as science specialists, health care providers, health promotion experts and science/health educators. More than just focusing on personal careers, our goal is to prepare students to use their knowledge and abilities in the health and natural sciences to be compassionate and caring health care providers.

Occupational Therapy Assistant

Occupational Therapy is the only profession that helps people across the lifespan to do the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations). Occupational therapy practitioners enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, and prevent鈥攐r live better with鈥攊njury, illness or disability.

Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) work collaboratively with the Occupational Therapists (OTR) in providing high-quality, cost-effective services, promoting health and wellness by meeting society鈥檚 occupational needs (AOTA, 2012).

Hospital-Simulation-Lab

Clinical Simulation & Learning Labs

The Clinical Simulation Labs prepare students for their future as health care professionals.  New spaces at the Dobbs Ferry and Bronx campuses comprise specialized labs designed to simulate different disciplines within a health care facility. The Labs include control rooms, debriefing space and several large classrooms that are filled with state-of-the-art technology that give students real-world experience before they begin their clinical experiences.

This space includes a Clinical Skills and Assessment Lab, movement lab and home health labs, frequently used by students and faculty in our nursing occupational therapy, occupational therapy assistant, and physical therapy programs.

Speech and Hearing Clinic

The Speech and Hearing Clinic has served the community for more than 25 years with comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and therapy for preschoolers, school-aged children, adolescents and adults.  Students, faculty, staff, and persons served in the program鈥檚 clinic are treated in a nondiscriminatory manner.

Advancing Curricular Change to Enhance Student Success

The U.S. Department of Education awarded B次元 federal funding to develop and implement a project called Advancing Curricular Change to Enhance Student Success, or ACCESS. The project will expand and enrich opportunities for students in high-demand health science careers by improving student outcomes in Anatomy and Physiology I, a gateway course, and increasing the number of available nursing training slots to meet the pressing need for nurses, particularly in the New York City metropolitan area. The project will improve teaching and learning on an institution-wide basis through the implementation of high-impact practices, advancement of faculty development, and robust student engagement in the college experience.

STEM Scholars Program in Biology (SSB)

B次元 has been awarded a five-year grant form the National Science Foundation's Scholarship Program in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (NSF S-STEM). We are one of six partner institutions participating in the grant.
